All new SLAM volunteers are required to attend at least two training sessions. Our training is a rigorous process filled with socializing and learning how to teach music in a classroom with your fellow teachers. Once you’ve been recruited as a teacher, we will guide you through the basics of teaching music while simultaneously building community in your classroom. Training typically starts during Week 5. This quarter, we are also holding mandatory refresher training sessions for current members.
During training, you will learn fun ice breaker games, how to handle unruly students, introduce music to new beginners, and get to know your co-teacher. Training also includes team-building exercises and socializing activities so new teachers get to know one another.
